Local GOP consultants, others, file federal suit over FairDistricts

A group that includes a pair of local GOP consultants involved in the legal and political dispute over gerrymandered Congressional and Florida Senate districts has filed a federal lawsuit seeking to have the Florida Supreme Court’s application of the FairDistricts constitutional amendment declared unconstitutional.

Legislator, GOP chairman file lawsuit against amendments

TALLAHASSEE — A group including a Pensacola state legislator and the chairman of the Alachua County Republican Party is launching a new legal challenge to two amendments passed by voters.

Rep. Mike Hill and Stafford Jones are among a group of people who filed a lawsuit Thursday in federal court. The lawsuit contends that the "Fair Districts" amendments violate the U.S. constitution including the 1st Amendment.

Pat Bainter and Co. form group to fight Fair Districts

A trio of Republican political consultants involved in the ongoing redistricting saga have formed “The Conservative Coalition for Free Speech and Association.”

Its website says the group has joined in the federal lawsuit filed Thursday in Pensacola seeking to void the Florida Supreme Court’s interpretation of the state’s anti-gerrymandering “Fair Districts” constitutional amendments.

"Shadow redistricting" operatives fire back

Some of the GOP operatives/activists swept up in the legal battles over the legislature's redistricting process, are firing back. Stafford Jones, Matt Mitchell, and Pat Bainter have formed the Conservative Coalition for Free Speech and Association committee to overturn the "Fair Districts" constitutional amendment passed by Florida voters and stand up for what they call fundamental First Amendment rights. Here's their site.

Operatives engaged in 'shadow redistricting' sue to invalidate Fair Districts

A group of Alachua-based Republicans calling themselves the "Conservative Coalition for Free Speech and Association" filed a lawsuit in federal court Thursday challenging the Fair Districts amendments of the Florida Constitution as unconstitutional.

The group is suing Secretary of State Ken Detzner in an attempt to invalidate the anti-gerrymandering amendments approved by voters in 2010. Several members of the group have fought the release of their private emails in pending redistricting lawsuits, claiming it violates their First Amendment right to free speech and association.
